Title: out of the desert (sand and sky)
Author: Gwinna
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: PG/K+
Characters: Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker
Genre: Gen, metaphorical
Summary: Darth Vader dreams he is in the desert.

A/N: This was written in response to a poetry prompt; the piece of poetry is included at the end of the story. Also, I really need to learn how to write something longer than a ficlet.

Title: how to be a perfect jedi
Author: Gwinna
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: PG/K+
Characters: Anakin, mentions of Obi-Wan and Palpatine
Genre: Gen, plotless introspection
Summary: Anakin hates that Obi-Wan never gets angry.

A/N: So, after eight years of writer’s block, I’ve managed to write a fanfic for the first time. Well, more like a ficlet. It’s super short and far from perfect, but I’m just going to go ahead and post it and hopefully move on to the next thing. Seriously, you have no idea how happy I am to have written even some trivial thing like this.

I recced Star Wars fics (and one vid) at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van during the month of February. Unfortunately, even though I spent all day February 29th writing the last two recs I had planned, and actually did finish them before midnight, my posting access had already been taken away. :( Of course it was my own fault for procrastinating, but that doesn't make it any less annoying (it might even be more annoying). Oh well, I suppose I should look on the bright side: this means that the next time I sign up, I'll already have two recs written and ready to go.

Anyway, here are the links to my recs:

( Absolution by Leia Naberrie )

( VID REC: In the End by TinkleFilms )

( Dangerous History by MaraLSky )

Since I've started making icons on a more regular basis, I've created a community to post them in. The reason I'm not just posting them here is because I'll probably make icon posts more frequently than non-icon posts, so if I didn't separate them out people might start thinking this was an icon journal. And as I do still want to post about other, non-icon things here when the mood strikes me (even if that doesn't happen very often), my icons will be posted at [livejournal.com profile] galazygraphics, and this will remain my everything-except-graphics journal.

Anyway, there's not much there yet, but go check out [livejournal.com profile] galazygraphics!

Most of these icons haven't been posted yet, so think of this as a sneak preview of what's to come. :)
gwinna: (Palpatine - most evil)
So, I was rewatching the Star Wars prequels recently, and it occurred to me that I had never listened to the audio commentary for Revenge of the Sith. Accordingly I went and did so, and it was very interesting, but there was one thing George Lucas said which struck me as rather bizarre and incredible. I quote:

One of the issues in all of this is, that bad guys think they're good, and Lord Sidious thinks he's bringing peace to the galaxy, because there's so much corruption and confusion and chaos going on, and that now he's going to be able to straighten everything out, which may be true, but the price the galaxy's going to have to pay for it is way too much. -- George Lucas, RotS commentary

All I can say is, if that is what Lucas was trying to convey, he failed signally. I have never once considered that Palpatine might genuinely have wanted to bring peace to the galaxy. It never even occurred to me as a possible interpretation of his character. Nor have I ever come across such an interpretation in either fanfic or profic (admittedly I haven't read much profic, but since I like Palpatine I have read a decent amount of fanfic about him).

There's probably no point in posting this, since it's unlikely anyone will see it here, but the most recent [livejournal.com profile] news post reminded me that I still have nine $10-off-a-year-of-paid-time coupons to give away. I don't know anyone who could use one, so I am willing to give them to anyone who asks, even if I don't know you. I can send them out until Jan. 15 and they can be redeemed until Jan. 31. So, if you want one, let me know.

During the month of July I recced genfic at [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom. Linking to my recs here for reference purposes (and because I haven't posted anything in my journal for months).

I got a paid account at the beginning of this year. I now have 105 icons, and it's STILL NOT ENOUGH.
gwinna: (Clone Wars!Anakin)
For once I got to see an episode of the Clone Wars when it aired! So I thought I would write up my thoughts. And it really is just random thoughts, not a formal review.

~ While I was glad to see more Anakin/Padme interaction, I thought it was rather stilted and not very well done. I was a bit surprised that they had Anakin come right out and say that his love for Padme is more important to him than his duty to the Jedi Order and the galaxy so early on. Also, the set-up for Anakin's losing his lightsaber doesn't really make much sense. I thought that, though their marriage is a secret, Anakin and Padme are friends openly, and as such there's no need for Anakin to hide when Bail comes in. The way RotS makes it look, Anakin hangs out in Palpatine's office all the time; surely it wouldn't be strange for him to visit Padme as well. He could even have pretended he was there on official business. And there was plenty of time for Padme to slip Anakin his lightsaber. Or she could have left it on her desk when she left; Bail had already turned away.

I have decided to post a list of Naruto fanfiction recs, mostly for my own benefit. I haven't read as much Naruto fanfiction as I would like (and certainly haven't reviewed as many of these as I would like), but these are my personal favorite fics. In other words, this list is subjective.

The title and author of the fic will be followed by the characters or pairing involved and the rating. The stories are loosely organized into groups by character, but otherwise they are in no particular order. I list the rating as the author has listed it, so the rating system used will vary. Ratings of R/M or higher will be in red. If a story is incomplete, it will be marked as a WIP.

After reading this thread at the TFN message board, I've been thinking about what might happen later in the Clone Wars series, and what I'd like to see happen.

During the month of November I recced Draco/Hermione fics at [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom, a multi-ship Harry Potter rec community based on the multi-fandom rec community [livejournal.com profile] crack_van (both these comms are awesome places for finding good stories to read, by the way). I thought I would link to my recs here to prove that I do occasionally - well, very occasionally - post stuff on livejournal. *g*

I don't really love Draco/Hermione the way I used to, but I read tons and tons of amazing fics during my period of obsession, and it's nice to be able to tell people how amazing they are. Or at least a few of them.

( By the Way by provocative envy )

( Pure Blood by Marionette )

( Frost Blue by Incarnadine )

( The Chronicles of Draco Malfoy by zarah joyce )

Yay, I actually contributed something to fandom for once, instead of just lurking all the time the way I usually do.

So recently I learned how to post images in my profile, and how to use a custom moodtheme.  I'm so proud of myself. :D

The moodtheme actually involved a fair amount of work - I'm using [livejournal.com profile] yura 's brilliant Akatsuki moodtheme, but I switched the moods around quite a bit in order to make them just so, and it took ages (I can only imagine how long it took [livejournal.com profile] yura  to make the original!).  It also involved my having to get a photobucket account because lj's scrapbook thingy assigns new filenames to whatever you upload.

I'd kind of like to get a new, non-lj-supplied layout as well, but that looks way too hard for me.  And I don't hate the one I have, even though lots of people have the exact same thing.  In fact, the white, black, and grey layout matches the black and white moodtheme.  Also, pretty much any icon looks good against shades of black and white.  Okay, I've talked myself into keeping it. :)

... In case it isn't obvious, this entry has no point beyond showing off my new moodtheme and making my journal less empty.  I keep being worried people will think I'm a sock-puppet or something since I never use my own journal.

I'm no longer the only one in the world who doesn't have a livejournal.  Now I just have to figure out something to put in it....

Actually, since I am a very shy and reclusive person who hates talking about herself, the whole concept of livejournal is kind of antithetical to my personality.  So I probably won't post much here.  Though, who knows.  Maybe occasionally I'll have something I want to say.  But really I joined lj so I could more easily keep track of other people's journals and communities.

Okay, I'm going to go see if I can find some icons.  (as she awkwardly tries to find some way to end this post...)
